I painted this one last night from reference I shot during the Huntington Beach Plein Air Festival.  I really liked the atmosphere this photo and I think I will do a larger painting.

I did this one this morning from reference I shot during the North Park Plein Air.  I really like the area around this bridge, great atmosphere and angles.

I painted  this one from reference I shot driving under the Lilac Road overpass on the I 15.  It's a pretty spectacular view in the afternoon when you drive un this hill in shadow and as you approach the bridge you see the Temecula Valley all lit up below.

I haven't posted much lately because I've been working on larger paintings.  I've been posting them on my landscape painting blog, check em out if you have a minute.
I painted this from reference I shot during the Huntington Beach Plein Air Festival last summer.  I loved the hazy light in the morning down by the pier.  I did a larger version of this painting and posted it on my landscape blog-check it out and let me know what you think.

This is a little painting of a bunch of eucalyptus trees in the San Luis Obispo area.  I really liked the silhouette of the trees in front of the pale hills and sky behind.

I was asked to put this one back up for auction, so here it is again.  It's a painting of Yosemite Valley that did it back in January.  You drive through this long tunnel as you enter the valley, and this view is the first thing you see as you come out of the darkness.

This is a painting of the Firestone Vineyards on a rainy day in Santa Ynez.

I've been very busy with work so I haven't posted in a few weeks.  It felt good to get going again, hopefully I can get back to daily posts.  This one is a view from a shady park in Montana de Oro, in San Luis Obispo.  It's a very beautiful spot, and always full of painters.

I Painted this one from reference I shot on the way to Zion National Park.  Along the highway you see these red rock formations that get more and more impressive as you approach the park entrance.  I don't know the name of this mountain, but it has this teapot shape that I really like, and down below is a field of blue green shrubs with a little ranch tucked in the foothills.  I couldn't resist painting it.

This is a great little swimming hole near Wawona in Yosemite.  We go almost every summer and it's a great place to cool off after hiking around all day.  The light is just beautiful there reflecting off the water and illuminating the trees.

I painted this one from reference I shot on a vacation to Kauaii.  I painted on the beach as well, but I liked this shot and have been intending to paint it ever since.  It's Kalapaki Beach in Lihue.

This is a painting of  the famous Sugar Shack in Huntington Beach, a great place for breakfast!  This is a view from the alley in the back, at sunset the building just lights up in an golden glow.

This is a little cove I saw while driving to Big Sur.  It's off Hwy 1 which is the most scenic road in the country.  A real winding road, but around every turn you are met with a spectacular view like this one.

I repainted this scene, because I thought the previous version was a little too broken up in the shadow shapes and I wanted to soften it a bit to get more atmosphere.  The difference is more subtle than I intended partly due to my photography limitations.  Anyway I hope you can see what I was trying to do.

I painted this one from reference I shot last summer in Yosemite.  It's that pullout where you get your first glimpse of the valley... pretty stunning view!

After a long month off, I'm back to painting again.  I'm wearing a lot of hats these days and I'm just running out of time each day.  I have a big illustration project going on and I'm working on several other things as well.   Anyway I'm going to try to get back to daily painting again.  Here's my first effort of the new year...let me know what you think.
